Lathe is wired right, thanks Russ...
Tonite I started machining down an axle for the flattie project, got a new hub I'm lacing in and it's needing a slightly smaller dia axle.
Damn that old lathe runs nice, been readin up in that book Koot lent me, gettin the hang of it bit by bit LOL. Need a dead center, got one comin in the mail. I'll post some pics.

...and thanks Larry for the cutting tools.

Here's the Hallcraft mini-drum I'm lacing in...when I say lacing, it's lacing me with painful bitchslaps

Well, I gotta wait on the other half of the spokes, but this is how it will look roughly

Got that axle whittled down to fit the Hallcraft, needed a spacer so fitted my new old chuck in there and made some real spindrift...trying to earn my "swarfrat" rating! sunny

Little hard to tell and you didn't mention it;but, did you step the axle on one side? You refer to THEE spacer (as in 1?).

Yes Dennman, I stepped it down.... Left the one side at 3/4 dia, it sits against the hub bearing on drivers side, other side I milled a spacer to provide support...sorry the pics need resizing, lose a good portion of the detail transferring.

You're a quick study Sunny! That's a nice lookin finish on that axle.
I just now flashed back on last nights dream.A beauty little milling machine w/ all kinds of tooling and gauges that my Alberta buddy gave me.Your thread must have triggered that dream.

Here's the spacer, aluminum. BTW Denn, I'm gonna post a thread about Koot handbombing his bike last nite, over on the Shovelhead forum...check it out in about half hour.

Just a thought here John. Will you build a dummy spacer for the other side to balance the look?

Yes Denn, I got a spacer for that side already, which I used on same axle before. I agree, gotta balance the look.
