Grey Creek Pass dirtlump ride
Super B and Casey and myself went on a mountain tour this past weekend.
Left Marysville saturday morning, was real nice cool morning. Casey has a 79 XL500 that's really sweet, Brian on his DR, me on my Austrian mistress.
racing down the St Mary's lake road, still hardtop first 20 or so clicks
St Mary's river bridge heading into the abyss
already spotted some yokels

making the turn at the old CFI first aid/cat shed about 60 km in...
more bridges to cross, great temp and nice riding
stopping just below a nice slide track about 8 km below the pass
nearing the summit, 'golden selfie' lol with crags in the backdrop, still on the St Mary's side

Re: Grey Creek Pass dirtlump ride
Grey Creek Pass. This german fella and his fam shipped their custom Steyr truck to Halifax from Germany, drove it across Canada taking as many backroads as possible
The trusty steeds at the top, now we descend to a place called 'Grey Creek' on the mighty Kootenay Lake
but first...a flat tire on Brian's DR. A naturally fashioned bike lift and remove the front tube for patching. Guy and his young son happened along in Jeep up from Koot lake side to critique us
After patching and airing up, and re-airing up, and again, and again....the patch finally seemed to vulcanize itself and hold. We coasted down to Grey Creek store and got some tube goop, sealed her for real!

Re: Grey Creek Pass dirtlump ride
well, we got thirsty with all this farting around...an oasis was found in Crawford Bay
then on to Riondel to campground on north side of town, beauty spot on Hendrix creek
got camp set up and rode up to Bob's Bar in Riondel. Bob's a great guy and his wife a great cook...ever tried deep fried Brussels Sprouts in Parmesan sauce?
partying by fire-light!

next morning off to ferry landing for breakfast since it's only place open at 8ish...and no we are not riding the ferry this time!
Pilot point lighthouse is nearby and Brian said hey lets go check it out...was good idea to shake the gorbies as well, there were many at ferry terminal
view of west arm

Re: Grey Creek Pass dirtlump ride
back on the pass road, heading homeward...stopped at Oliver lake near the summit, beautiful little shallow and clear lake, full of tadpoles
sad that the trip is almost over again...stopped for a beer under the St Mary's river bridge at 40 km marker
dogs were happy to see Dad tho....
so I don't break all the rules, here's some Shovel content: I made a tank bag for the FLT on friday and finished mounting it on Sunday eve
