Me and Mama and the Model T
So Mama finally relented and said "why don't we take a ride on that bike that was supposed to be a hot-tub?"
I wasn't quite sure how to take it...but sure wasn't gonna look a gift horse in the mouth. She'd asked me for a hot-tub the year before, and I told her I'd think on it...in the end I decided we could spend more time together during summers travelling on the motorcycle...and it'd prolly cost less than a hot-tub in the long run...besides, I mainly see those things sitting with covers on them, or waiting on maintenance...come to think of it very similar to Shovelheads owned by people who ride twinks...so fuck that!
Saturday was a beautiful cool morning...I did the standard fluid level check and chain-tension testing, had just put new old skins on either end for safety. Things looked real good. We waited till around 10:30 am so the sun could get some power in it, then headed east...stopped for a quick final check just outside Cranbrook at the Fraggle Rock rest area....Daneen was still stoked at this point...thumbs up!
We rode straight thru to the Roosville border crossing, about 25 miles south of Elko, BC...the US border guards there are always very regimented but we had no fruit or veggies so no problemo
Stopped in Eureka bout 8 miles south, now there's a friendly little town...topped up the gas, caught a stretch for the legs...now the sun was high and what a beauty of a day...even shed the heavy coats...Cherry was running fine as frog's hair, loving the cool mountain air as these old horses tend to....
The ride to Whitefish from Eureka is 45 miles, just beautiful country, so similar to the Kootenays of course...forest and lakes both sides most of the way down. Then west another 15 miles to Kalispell, wandered the old downtown for a couple hours...there's a western shop there that sells the highest quality Filson wool bush pants, shirts and coats....and handmade White's loggers boots...damn ya just don't see this stuff anymore...
Had a quick bite then turned her around and headed back...rode straight thru home...great day...put almost 500 km on the Black Cherry, and she ran smooth with the two of us all day....damn I love these old Shovels

John and Daneens decision to get the FLT
I think it was a family decision to go with the FLT it kind of went like this…..
Daneen: I think we should get that hot tub we have been talking about?
John: Well…..I was kind of thinking about buying that FLT in Dinktown so we could go riding together?
Daneen: But I thought you wanted to get the tub!!
John: No, no I do want the tub actually, come to think of it that would be cool to have the 66-84 crew over to take a soak as well!!!
Daneen: pausing and thinks a moment...(imagining the 66-84 crew in her tub running around in speedo's )…..ya know john I think that FLT is a really good idea you should move on it!!
John: Well what about the tub?
Daneen: what tub?
