A Dithering Conundrum.Larry want some Shovel repairwork?
The ditherin conundrum has taken over my thinking processes.
The Weerier has developed an intermitant tinny sounding noise from the front cylinder/head area. It'll start and idle just fine.It starts w/ the noise at the point that it's backed off after reving.Last ride it cruised at a steady 50 mph just fine.
I thought it was the fr. exh. pushrod hitting the cover tube.I've adjusted the tube a couple times but the noise is still there.
I'm thinking that now the front wrist pin bushing is wearing as the back one did.
When the back one was fixed,I asked if the front was good and was told it was.I think my "ace" wrench is not so ace anymore. No one else around here to trust makin repairs to the old iron.
I was plannin to leave here on the 22/23 of June for a friend's retirement party at Toad Rock.Already have my Horsethief ticket in hand.
This is takin too long to think out.Gotta do chores.I'll be balk!!
OK,where was I??
So I hope that if, I pack the bare essentials and do a 2 day trip at a conservative 50 mph,I can make it to Toad. Then,if all is no worse,I could push on to the Kootenays.

Good to know ,Dave.I'll probably do the southern route this time after dropping down to Princeton from Merritt.Osoyoos should be about the right distance for an easy speed day.

Gettin off is no problem.Easy ridin should get me there. The noise isn't as loud yet as it was last time and it still ran strong then at 70 ,w/ 2-up.It had around .030 play in the wrist pin bushing then.
Aug long weekend is lookin like a no show at this point.

Hey Dennis,
Larry hasn't been able to get on the site here but told me he'd help out with the top end work, drop him a line at h.d.ryder@shaw.ca, and meantime if you need a bike when you're in the area my model T is yours for long as you want, just no catwalks or burnout contests please....

Well that's a most gratious offer John.A major part of my conundrum was,how to get aboot without wheels.
No worries about me takin care of the T. I haven't done a wheelie in 35 yrs. and those were unintentional on my Yammy 650. I was learnin how much throttle to use when lettin out the clutch.
I'll contact Larry and see what his summer schedule is. Travel destination plans depend primarily on when Larry has the shop time to take care of the Weerier's ailment.

Got ahold of Larry and he's good to go for a wrist pin bushing replacement,if that's what's needed.Gotta hunt down a new bushing for sure and a wrist pin (just in case it's too worn).I've got the gaskets that I need for a barrel and head reinstall.
Now just gotta get there.
Now just gotta get there.

I think they're the same OD (.791) as what I'm runnin.
I've got 2 at a consistant .790 over all the length (by my measurin tool) but both show signs of bushing wear.
I'd hate to buy two and only use one.Better to pass on the cash to Larry for his time to do the fix.Your pins sound alot better than what I have here.Could you measure them and see if they check out for OD all along the length.I've decided that an easy 2 day ride to Toad Rock with an overnight with you & Sharron is best for the scoot.I could pick one up when I stop in.

Well they sound better than mine at .790 overall and showing bushing wear.My measurin vernier could be off slightly.
Probably only need 1 if what's in there now isn't reusable. The pins were new in April 30 2013 w/ the new .010 over pistons.
It may be still usable since that back pin, when replaced w/ new pistons, still read .790 and I think it had been in there since early 2007.
I'll plan on pickin that pin up when I stop in Osoyoos for the night.
Less than 1 month to go before departure.Just gotta hunt down bushings now.Come on pension cheques!!!

Helluva jesture jmac!! Much appreciated to have that safety net available just in case. I'll give you a call from Dave's and let you know how the Weerier is behavein. If it is still runnin with no appreciable noise change then I don't think the truck will be necessary. If all works out Avola is back in the schedule.
