Battery Disconnect switch
Was reading that thread on Shovelhead.us about the guys battery nearly catching his bike and garage on fire, just ordered a battery disconnect switch off theBay. Question...you attach this inline on the negative battery cable correct? Also I think I remember Denn having a cigarette lighter style powerpoint on his bike, where inline did you put this Denn? I wanna install one to charge up my cell phone etc when on longer trips.

Re: Battery Disconnect switch
Yuuup, in the ground side of the circuit for the switch.
I wired my Cig lighter/cell charger port right off the battery posts.Put a fuse inline on the + wire.[img][/img]
I went through a few before I found one (above) that could handle the vibrations and not fall apart.

Re: Battery Disconnect switch
I tried a few out of old vehicles with the metal sleeve behind the dash but as mentioned ,they fell apart. This one from Canuck Tire has held up so far. It's been awhile since I put it on. I believe the leads are fixed to it as opposed to the screw attachments.sunnydog wrote:Awesome Denn, that's what I need.

I found one online I will try, its got the weather cover on it and hardwired as well I think. Handy to have a power point on the ol tractor eh? Never know when ya might have to run a plug in toaster or microwave from the Shovel.

After idling the Shovel for 45 min in the campground to charge my phone, could prolly light a smoke off one of the exhaust manifolds

No need to idle Sonny. The charging doesn't draw much.

Power point
I got one of them trickle charger style cords hooked to the battery, its like a 2 prong trailer plug if you need a mental picture. It never falls apart and costs almost zip. It came with an electric vest I purchased about 10 yrs ago. I went to canuck junk and bought the opposite end for it and a cheap cig lighter end. Wired them together and it works great for anything like cells or any 12v attachments.
Doesn't take up any room whatsoever. The wire tucks under the seat and the attachment in the saddle bag. I think the total cost for all parts may have been around 8 bucks.

I just took my vest connection like that out.I never use the vest and the battery is only on the tender when it's out of the scoot.
